Woodplay is a set of custom wooden chandeliers for the new Estonian Embassy in Riga: slim ash profiles joined at right angles. The profiles are full ash the whole way through, real wood and not plastic finished to look like timber. They light the public rooms through to the working spaces.
We build each wooden chandelier from ash. A CNC-cut groove in each profile holds a dimmable LED source. Aluminium tubes join the profiles at the corners and hide the wiring. Different profile lengths let the geometry grow or contract to fit a room.
As ash is a heavy wood, we simulate every wooden chandelier before we build it. The joints have to hold a true 90 degrees, and nothing can sag. If an LED ever fails, it is easy to replace in its groove. Each chandelier can also run on the building’s control system. Across eight rooms, the profiles hang as calm right-angled grids overhead. No two of the wooden chandeliers are the same.
Woodplay was designed for this embassy, but the system is not tied to it. We can build custom wooden chandeliers for another interior. A new set of lengths and layouts sizes them to the room. See more of our indoor lighting.
