Macro of packed amber cast resin Cloudberry forms, translucent and faceted, Berlin

Estonian Embassy in Berlin

Cloudberry is a series of custom resin chandeliers for the Estonian Embassy in Berlin. Each is a one-of-a-kind piece, hand assembled and hanging differently in the room it occupies. The cloudberry itself is a Nordic forest berry, amber and translucent, found at the edges of bogs.

It carries the whole identity of the building. A single natural form runs from the entrance hall through to the quieter rooms beyond. Visitors meet the cloudberry chandeliers before they meet anyone from the embassy.

We pushed resin past its usual geometry, into shapes with real depth and irregularity. We worked closely with Aeris on how the clusters would sit in each room. Each cast resin chandelier is hand cast, hand-polished, and fitted with an integrated 12V LED. The two sizes and slight shifts in colour and translucency mean no two are alike.

The cables of each resin chandelier are visible by design. Hand-formed coaxial lines run between the forms, suggesting a network and the flow of data, the idea of the cloud. It is a country that built its identity on digital infrastructure, expressed through something that grows in its forests.

Cloudberry was custom to this embassy, but the design is one we can build again. If a space of yours would suit a custom resin chandelier like it, tell us. See more of our indoor luminaires.
