Cornflower is the pedestrian street lighting for Ahtme's rebuilt central square, eight poles standing twelve metres tall and inspired by Estonia's national flower. The square in Ida-Virumaa was rebuilt from the ground up, and the poles repeat at a steady interval across one wide open public space.
Cornflower is built for large open environments, and here it reads as a field of flowers on twelve-metre stems. Each pole is made from aluminium and galvanized, powder-coated steel around our own Wannabe aluminium LED profile. Adjustable joints aim each head, and DALI control dims the urban street lighting.
Cornflower was installed as part of a wider reconstruction of Ahtme’s centre, which added over six kilometres of new walkways. The eight poles carry the pedestrian lighting across the open square and its new walkways, a space with no roadway running through it.
