Nest

Nest is an urban art installation located in Noblessner Harbor in Tallinn, designed to transform public space through architectural lighting, creativity, and the sustainable reuse of materials. Inspired by a child’s sketch and developed in collaboration with the Estonian design agency Velvet, we translated the original idea into a distinctive public artwork integrated into the surrounding urban environment.

We constructed the installation from repurposed materials, giving new life to a long-abandoned industrial structure while referencing the site’s industrial heritage through contemporary design.

The illuminated eggs are manufactured from rotomolded polyethylene, a material we selected for its durability, weather resistance, and low maintenance in demanding climates, including seaside and Arctic conditions. The nest structure itself is formed from branches sourced from construction materials and carefully shaped to support the final composition.

After sunset, Nest comes alive through RGBW LED lighting fixtures controlled via the Casambi smart lighting system, allowing the illumination to adapt to different moods and occasions. We designed the metal structure to age naturally, developing a patina over time so the installation gradually blends into its surroundings and evolves with the urban landscape.
