The “1934” project originated from the restoration efforts of an old, historical lighting pole located in the heart of Tallinn. The initiative was driven by the city of Tallinn’s goal to revive this historical public space lighting fixture with a modern, custom-made, and energy-efficient lighting solution.
This is the tallest lighting mast standing at an impressive 23 meters high. This iconic mast was first erected and illuminated back in 1934, and the project aims to preserve its historical significance while modernizing its structure for contemporary use.
When redesigning the outdoor luminaire, we aimed to preserve its classic look while integrating modern, energy-efficient LED solutions. By using contemporary technology, we revitalized this historic piece. The outdated 6000 W bulbs were replaced with LED lighting elements, reducing consumption to 400 W.
The aluminium components of the luminaire have been meticulously crafted using custom-made molds and a specialised spinning technique. This process allows for the creation of beautifully curved shapes that seamlessly complement the PMMA spheres and resemble the original design.
The original glass casings were replaced with PMMA spheres, known for their durability and weather resistance. These spheres ensure long-lasting performance and aesthetic appeal. The innovative design enhances the luminaire’s visual appeal while contributing to efficient light dispersion and energy conservation. The result is a sophisticated and sustainable lighting solution that blends tradition with modern technology.
Made specifically for the outdoors, this design luminaire stands as a beacon of the perfect blend between cherished history and a sustainable future.
